Job Title: Battery Test Technician Location: Tustin, CA (40 Parker Irvine, CA)
Job Type: 8 Month Contract (with chance for extension)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1-hour non-billable lunch)
Position Overview:
Rivian is seeking a Battery Test Technician to support the engineering team in performing battery cell testing and maintenance. This is a hands-on role with approximately 50% of the time spent onsite and the remaining 50% at our facility located in Irvine, CA. The ideal candidate will have experience with battery testing, electrical circuits, and troubleshooting equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up battery cells into fixtures and test systems for cell testing based on engineering direction.
Register and handle battery cells according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Perform daily maintenance of ongoing battery lifetime testing.
Review test progress and communicate any issues or concerns to the engineering team.
Fabricate test fixtures and harnesses as directed by engineers.
Develop and update operating procedures as needed; present updates to the engineering team.
Collaborate with laboratory equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
Follow standard laboratory maintenance procedures and safety practices.
Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of cell test equipment.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols, especially in handling high-voltage equipment and lithium-ion batteries.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Proficiency in general computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Remote Desktop Connection).
Experience troubleshooting hardware and tool issues, including Ethernet/IP and CAN protocols.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail in handling test samples and troubleshooting test setups.
Hands-on experience with light machine tools for fabricating harnesses and test fixtures.
Strong hands-on experience using multimeters, soldering irons, wire strippers, etc.
Creative problem-solving skills when fabricating new test setups or resolving testing issues.
Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read wiring diagrams.
Awareness of safety protocols when working with high-voltage equipment and lithium-ion batteries.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with strong self-motivation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a laboratory or manufacturing setting related to battery testing.
Experience with cell testing systems or equipment maintenance.
Basic understanding of battery technologies, especially lithium-ion.
