Job Description

Pay Range: $ 85.94/hr - $ 98.74/hr

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist will be responsible for the implementation, management, and maintenance of the Pharmacy related technology and the educational needs associated with the use of all such products. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring the systems for data quality, efficiency and operation, data integrity, and compliance of all systems with current regulations and standards. The incumbent will ensure that installations meet user needs, priorities, interfaces, and changes while adhering to the system-wide Information Technology standards the incumbent must have or be able to develop an understanding of the business functions of the various departments that are integrated with the Pharmacy system. This position provides expertise and direction in the effective use and continued growth of the software products and will assist in maintaining good vendor and IT relations. The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist will be expected to maintain competency in the practice of all areas of Pharmacy and will be called upon to work in the capacity of a pharmacist. The staffing role is important to maintain an understanding of how technology affects operations. They provide some supervision and direction for support personnel and will provide input on evaluations, and assist with the interview and selection process. They work collaboratively with clinical departments, information technology department and clinical leadership in the design and implementation of the information system as it applies to clinical practice. They ensure consistency of practice with the mission and vision of Enloe Medical Center, provide informatics project management for assigned tasks, and ensure that projects are accomplished within acceptable time, budget, and quality constraints. They maintain current knowledge of all practice standards as well as policies and procedures that are supported by clinical applications. The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist contributes to the service excellence mission of Enloe Medical Center, Pharmacy and Clinical Informatics Department.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
-Minimum 2 years experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting
-Graduate of ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy


Desired:
-Pharm D. or other advanced pharmacy related training
-Demonstrated proficiency in the application of Pharmacy computer systems
-Prior information systems experience, including system installations/upgrades, analysis & support of clinical or business information systems
-Project management experience involving complex projects including experience as team leader for major multi-department new installation or upgrade projects
-Demonstrated proficiency in Outlook, MS word, Excel

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
-Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in good standing by the State of California

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Must be able to work independently and efficiently in a complex and varied work environment: multiple complex projects in great detail & handle interruptions. Working knowledge of pharmacy software applications and the operation of bedside scanning/eMAR are preferred. The ability to analyze complex information systems and to exercise independent judgment and discretion in defining system problems and solutions to correct the problems. Analytical skills necessary to determine user needs from process descriptions. Analytical skills necessary to develop operational policies and procedures relative to information systems and associated work processes. Ability to understand and to express technical concepts in lay terminology. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality improvement processes is necessary as well as the ability to successfully integrate these into practice for the Pharmacy department. Ability to comprehend and utilize technical skills for database management. Proficient in use of project management, word processing, flowcharting, database, and electronic mail software applications or the ability to learn in a short period of time. Effective interpersonal skills are required, as the IS Pharmacist must work with numerous divisions and healthcare professionals within the hospital, including information systems, finance, nursing, quality, pharmacists and physicians. Must demonstrate technical competence & professional clinical judgment. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergency requests. Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally both one-on-one and in groups. Ability to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, acute care, psychiatric, oncology, obstetric, chemically dependent, rehabilitation and skilled-nursing patients.
