We are searching for a detail-oriented data engineering intern to join our team remotely or in our Lakewood or Austin office. Job Purpose: The purpose of a Data Engineer-Intern is to manipulate, interpret, and analyze data. Some examples of the specific work may include building financial models, creating and delivering presentations, and Our Intern program serves to give undergraduate and graduate students first-hand experience with consulting at NewGen. At the end of the program, there may be an offer to join us as a full-time Data Engineer upon graduation. Duties and Responsibilities: Data engineering is the task of designing systems to acquire and transform data to be made available for analysis. Data engineers at NewGen work closely with clients and project managers to enumerate data requirements, facilitate data transfers, develop methods for validating and cleaning incoming data, and generating data extracts or connections for implementation in models. A successful Intern will have the opportunity to present results to client management and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members. The Intern will gain new skills and build on the strengths they bring to the firm while receiving frequent coaching and mentoring from colleagues. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: Must be enrolled in a BS/MS/PhD program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject at an accredited college. Working knowledge on building data transformation and processing solutions using SQL, Python, awk, Go, or similar scripting languages. Familiarity with data processing technologies in a big-three cloud provider (Azure, AWS, GCP) Ability to work strategically with terabyte-scale datasets Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with Power Query and Power Pivot Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future. Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively - both verbally and in writing - in English
