Located on Chicago's vibrantly multicultural North Side, LUC is committed to creating an inclusive, responsive community of faculty, students, and staff. As an urban-based Department of English dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from under-represented and under-served populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups. We also encourage applications from scholars committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and from candidates who can further the University's efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. Full-time faculty in the Writing Program teach four courses per semester in Writing and Core Literature. Course assignments are based on the needs of the Department of English and the Writing Program but involve first-year writing and, depending on the instructor's qualifications, developmental writing, advanced writing, introductory literature, or business writing courses. Faculty also engage in service at the program and department levels. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in English or a closely related field by May 2024, with three years' demonstrated excellence teaching first-year writing and at least one year's experience or comparable training in either developmental writing or business writing.
