Although CASA and CASA in Action share a common mission and vision in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations.

DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:

The Human Resources (HR) department is a strategic and operational department within CASA. They play a critical role in shaping a workplace culture that embraces diversity, promotes equity, and fosters inclusion, resulting in an environment where all employees can thrive and contribute their unique perspectives and talents. Their primary objective is to create an environment where employees from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities feel valued, and respected, and have equal opportunities for growth and success at CASA.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The RJEI HR Manager develops and implements initiatives and programs that foster justice, equity, and inclusion throughout the organization. They collaborate with CASA leadership, managers, affinity groups, the RJEI team of staff, union staff, and others to establish policies and practices that address systemic barriers and biases, promote fairness, and create a culture of inclusivity while also tracking and monitoring progress. The Manager will work closely with the Racial and Gender Justice Training Manager and the CASA RJEI team of staff to support in developing and implementing key training to CASA staff at large. All content and materials will be reflective of CASA's mission, vision, and values and actively demonstrate our organizational commitment to being an Anti-Racist organization and becoming a Pro-Black, Pro-Indigenous, Feminist, and Queer Liberation organization. Given the level of interaction this position is expected to have with staff across the organization, this position will require in-person work, with opportunities to telework from home.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, align, and implement overall RJEI strategy with CASA’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Collaborate with leaders, RJEI team of staff, and the HR team to create and assess policies, practices, programs, and services that enhance RJEI at CASA
  • Conduct assessments and analyze data to identify gaps, trends, and areas of improvement, both internally with staff, and externally with program/services.
  • Collaborate with others to design and deliver training programs, orientations, and workshops to promote awareness, understanding, and competency over RJEI, such as cultural competence, anti-racism, unconscious/implicit bias, gender and LGBTQIA, disability, accessibility, and facilitating discussions on sensitive topics.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on matters related to RJEI.
  • Advocate for the needs and concerns of marginalized communities at CASA and work towards eliminating discrimination, harassment, and microaggressions.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop fair and inclusive recruitment, selection, hiring, and promotion processes.
  • Foster an environment where employees feel empowered to raise concerns or report incidents related to bias, discrimination, or harassment.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees, address complaints of unfair treatment or bias, and ensure that the workplace is free from any form of discrimination.
  • Stay informed about current research, best practices, and legal requirements pertaining to RJEI issues.
  • Collaborate with program Directors and Managers to track and measure the impact of internal and external RJEI initiatives, assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and provide regular reports, presentations, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Communicate CASA's commitment to RJEI, both internally and externally, and serve as a resource for employees seeking guidance on matters of RJEI.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute a variety of analysis, records, reports, and other files of general and confidential materials.
  • Staff the RJEI team meetings in partnership with other team leaders.
  • Will be required to travel to all CASA footprint locations (DC Metro MD/VA, Baltimore MD, York and Lancaster PA, Atlanta GA)
  • Other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, social work, human resources, or a related field
  • Minimum two years’ experience working in Racial and Gender justice (commonly known as DEI, with a specific focus on justice)
  • Anti-racism training instructor certification by year one (if not certified in the past 3 years)
  • Valid US driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated leadership and practical understanding of racial justice, gender justice, equity, diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Deep understanding of the intersectionality of race, gender, class, capitalism, and other systems of oppression.
  • Experience in facilitating in-person and digital popular education trainings
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written, in English and Spanish; or English and French.
  • Must be skilled at establishing cooperative working relationships.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple ongoing projects.
  • Demonstrated passion for idealism, progressive values, and Black, Latino/a/e, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and Immigrant communities.
  • Must possess integrity, a positive attitude, be mission driven, and self-directed.
  • Cultural agility and experience with grounding work from an anti-oppressive lens.
  • Training or familiarity with conflict resolution techniques, one-on-one and group facilitation.
  • Proven experience researching, developing, and executing RJEI strategy.
  • Consistently exercises sound judgement.
