The Sexual Assault Service Advocate supports the programs of ACTS that make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in crisis. The position provides individual and group support, on-scene crisis response, court advocacy, and coordination of services as well as referrals for victims of sexual assault.

Position Title and Department: Sexual Assault Service Advocate, Sexual Assault Services

Salary:$46,581.00 (plus $1000/year for bilingual English and Spanish, French or Arabic)

Reports to: Director of Sexual Assault Services

Hours per week and schedule: 40, Monday through Friday, 9am- 5pm, flexibility required

Pay Type: Salary (not OT eligible)

Essential Functions

Provides crisis intervention services to sexual assault survivors and their families.
Participates in a rotating on-call schedule.
Assists sexual assault survivors with the stabilization of their lives after victimization.
Assists sexual assault survivors with understanding and participating in the criminal justice system through court accompaniment and advocacy.
Coordinates and co-facilitates support groups for sexual assault victims and their families.
Provides on-scene crisis response, such as hospital accompaniment for sexual assault victims.
Responds to sexual assault victims in need of immediate support, both while in the office and on call.
Maintains case management system, client records and statistical data relevant to sexual assault victims.
Processes sexual assault trauma cases with crisis line volunteers, advocates and group facilitators.
Completes 40 hours of sexual and domestic violence intervention training (provided by ACTS the first year) and other essential internal and external training as required.
Represents the agency on local task forces and committees.
Provides training to allied professionals and community education.
Provides support, information, and referral to ACTS callers.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to maintain empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude at all times

Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule to meet community needs
Ability to professionally manage crisis, trauma, and otherwise disturbing information

Maintain 100% confidentiality of clients and case files
Ability to collect, report and in-put data into several databases
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with media outlets
Ability to learn new software
Ability to arrive on-scene within 90 minutes while on-call
Have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, current auto insurance, and daily access to a personal vehicle

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of current trends, resources and information related to crisis management, sexual assault, and victim relations.

Education and Experience:

Meets one of the following three criteria:
A bachelor’s degree in human services, behavioral sciences or allied field (including criminal justice, education and psychology)
AA degree in human services, behavior sciences or allied field (including criminal justice, education and psychology) with 4 years of documented related experience
No college degree in human services, behavioral sciences or allied field (including criminal justice, education and psychology) with 5 years of documented related experience.
A bachelor’s in human services or behavioral sciences, preferred

Experience dealing with clients in crisis, as well as experience as a group facilitator and presenter, required
Experience in public speaking and presenting to large audiences, required
Bilingual (Spanish, French or Arabic and English) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
